DOL Summarizes COBRA Subsidy Extension Contained in 2010 DOD Act

The Department of Labor released December 23, 2009 this summary of the changes made to the COBRA subsidy that were contained in the Department of Defense Appropriations Act, 2010 (2010 DOD Act). The DOL expects to provide updated FAQs and other information next week. We will provide updated FAQs on our web site once the DOL has provided its FAQs.

Senate Approved Defense Bill - Contains COBRA Subsidy Extension

Over this past weekend, the Senate approved the House version of the Defense bill that included the COBRA subsidy extension. The bill now goes to the President, who is expected to sign it.

Updated: COBRA Subsidy Extension Enacted

President has signed the Fiscal Year 2010 Defense Appropriations Act. The act extends the eligibility period for the ARRA premium reduction for an additional two months (through Feb ruary 28, 2010) and the maximum period for receiving the subsidy for an additional six months (from nine to 15 months). The key provisions of the extension are as follows:
