DISCOVERY BENEFITS MARKS 30 YEARS BY GIVING BACK
June 5, 2017
Human Resources Director, Jessica Shawn, believes it was Discovery Benefits’ largest volunteer effort ever, with more than 100 employees participating. “As we’re celebrating our 30th anniversary, we’re looking at highlighting some of the great pieces of Discovery Benefits,” she said. “And one of them is our investment in communities that we’re in and our desire to support local nonprofits.”
And it was a great opportunity for employees to get out of the office and get involved. “We do smaller-scale (campaigns) throughout the year,” Shawn shared. “This was our first attempt at a fully company-organized event where employees could sign up during the workday and volunteer. It was something new and different for us as a way to celebrate our 30th anniversary.”
Shawn said the volunteer efforts were well-received by both employees and the nonprofits. “People really liked the opportunity to get out and give back,” she said. “Some of the nonprofits were new for us to work with. Employees really enjoyed getting to know more about them.”
These organizations were part of the May events:
- Fargo: YWCA, VA (Veterans Affairs), TNT Kid’s Fitness and Gymnastics, Rape and Abuse Crisis Center, Fargo Marathon, Ronald McDonald House and CCRI.
- Brookings: Habitat for Humanity, The Backpack Project, United Way and the Domestic Abuse Shelter.
