Introducing New Features Through the Benefits Mobile App by Discovery Benefits

Gone are the days when mobile apps were mostly used for playing games and doing basic math. The mobile experience is part of our everyday lives, and apps are now built for all types of business and personal needs. In fact, for 20 percent of Americans, a smartphone is the only device they have to access the internet and online accounts.
We’ve recently released the redesigned and enhanced Benefits Mobile App by Discovery Benefits, to provide you with a better and more thorough mobile experience. Learn more about some of the features included in the release, which make it even easier for you to use your employee benefits plans.
Eligible expense scanner
Your phone’s camera has long served as a tool to make it easy for you to upload documentation through the Benefits Mobile App. With our latest release, you can use your phone’s camera to scan the bar code of your purchase to determine if the purchase is an IRS Code Section 213(d) eligible expense. Section 213(d) determines eligible expenses for:
- A Medical Flexible Spending Account (Medical FSA)
- A Health Savings Account (HSA)
- Some Limited Flexible Spending Accounts (Limited FSAs) and Health Reimbursement Arrangements (HRAs).
Just access your mobile app and choose “Eligible Expense Scanner” to scan items and determine eligibility.
HSA investment view
HSAs are considered a premier investment tool for long-term and retirement planning, and you can grow your funds at a much higher rate when you invest them instead of simply earning interest. Now, with the Benefits Mobile App, you’ll be able to access even more details about your HSA investments. You can:
- Check your current and beginning balance.
- Monitor recent investment activity.
- View your rate of return.
Redesigned “I Want To” menu
Your online account has an “I Want To” menu that provides easy-to-access buttons tailored to the benefits plans you’re enrolled in. You can now find the “I Want To” menu immediately after you enter the mobile app, putting even more functionality just one tap away. For example, if you’re enrolled in an HSA, the “I Want To” menu includes buttons for:
- Make HSA Transaction
- View HSA Investments
- Eligible Expense Scanner
- Manage Expenses
- View Account Snapshot
